OnePlus has impressed consumers with its smartphones in recent years. Although it doesn’t have the market share of manufacturers like Apple and Samsung, it is making a solid name for itself in the smartphone industry.
To this point, the company has been quiet about when it plans to release its next handsets. A well-known tipster within the smartphone community, Ishan Agarwal, recently offered a hint. He told 91Mobiles that OnePlus is reportedly going to launch four new devices in March.
The lineup supposedly includes the new OnePlus 9, 9 Pro, and a budget-friendly 9R model. Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that OnePlus is also reportedly planning to launch its first smartwatch next month.
Currently, the news is still just a rumor and hasn’t been confirmed by OnePlus. However, the source appears to be credible and Agarwal’s speculation is in-line with other tips that have emerged in recent days.
Smartphone prices have skyrocketed over the past few years. Flagship devices now regularly cost more than $1,000 despite the fact that such a price was unheard of just a few years ago.
However, that trend has helped open up a new segment within the smartphone industry—mid-range devices for consumers on a budget. These phones typically have the same core hardware as a company’s flagship models, albeit without some of the flashy features. For instance, Samsung’s cheaper Galaxy devices have a slightly lower-quality screen and camera despite having the same processor and other internal specs.
The rumored OnePlus 9E will likely fall between its existing flagship models and the cheaper Nord N series. It could offer consumers slightly better performance and battery life without breaking the bank.
Meanwhile, OnePlus’ upcoming 9 and 9 Pro are rumored to boast 120Hz displays and Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 888 processor. The flagship phones will also have a better camera array to try and convince users to shell out the extra cash.
Late last year, The Burn-In reported that OnePlus was in the process of designing its first-ever smartwatch. As the wearables sector has boomed in the past few years, it’s clear that the emerging manufacturer wants a slice of the pie.
A smartwatch would certainly help it dive into the wearables space. The rumored OnePlus watch may be similar to Oppo’s Watch RX and will likely be powered by Google’s Wear OS.
It’s unclear what the watch’s other specs will be. Given the milestone nature of its release, OnePlus is likely keeping the device under wraps until it can officially announce it.
Speaking of, now that reputable leaks are starting to emerge regarding its next-gen phones and watch, consumers should expect to start seeing teasers from OnePlus fairly soon.
Stay tuned to The Burn-In for the latest news about OnePlus’ latest phones and other gadgets being unveiled around the industry.
