Since the holiday season, jokes about Apple’s AirPods have flooded the Internet. Memes, photos of people wearing Apple AirPods incorrectly, and even the hashtag #AirPodsForChristmas have become a running joke—insinuating the AirPods are only for the wealthy and millennials. Well, the jokes are about to continue because it was recently announced that Louis Vuitton is getting in on the action of AirPods’ newfound fame.
According to Harpers Bazaar, French fashion and global trendsetter Louis Vuitton is debuting its own line of wireless headphones—because, of course they are. Dubbed the Horizon Earphones, it is the brand’s first stab in the audio market. If it wasn’t bad enough that these wireless earbuds are often associated with only rich people owning and using them, Louis Vuitton has just proved that, and Hollywood is already sporting them. Let the memes begin.
The LV Headphones
Coming in four different colors, the Louie headphones are only about eight times the price of the ones you can order from Apple. For just a mere $995, those who are into fashion and the latest technology can look stylish while wearing their LV wireless headphones, at least for three and a half hours of listening time on just one charge. Three and a half hours is very little compared to Apple’s 24-hour battery life, but if they match what you’re wearing, who cares?
Good news, though, is that the wireless headphones work with both Apple and Android devices, and also works with Siri and Alexa.
The headphones are slated to be released later this year, but that hasn’t stopped celebrities from wearing them. Miley Cyrus and rappers Travis Scott, Lil Yachty, and Lil Uzi Vert are amongst those who have been spotted wearing the monogrammed headphones. Lil Yachty even held a funeral for his plain white Apple AirPods and claimed the LV headphones were “a sign of real wealth.” We wonder why the Internet can’t stop with the jokes.
The Jokes Will Go On
While it’s obvious that not only the elite are owners of AirPods, the running joke online has provided entertainment for those who are still struggling with untangling their headphones every time they want to listen to music. The memes took over Twitter, where literally thousands were poking fun about the comparison to other headphone brands, including Beats.
“Wait.. $160 for AirPods makes you rich but when beats were $200-$400 nobody said a damn thing,” one Tweet read—further proving that AirPods are a trend that most likely will be replaced by something else soon.
But, if you’re looking to get in on the wireless earbud movement, you can patiently wait for Louis Vuitton to release their line later this year, or wait for Apple AirPods 2 which are rumored to be released later this year. Until then, we’ll continue to poke fun at those who got #AirPodsForChristmas.
