Video game fans got some sad news on Tuesday when developer Square Enix announced that it is delaying two of its most anticipated games of 2020. Both the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” and “Marvel’s Avengers” won’t arrive until later in the year.
According to the studio, the respective development teams of each game need more time to polish the play experience. Although the wait will be annoying for many players, most games that get pushed back are ultimately better for it. Square Enix doesn’t have plans to scrap of majorly alter either title. They will both still release this year.
‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ Delayed
Square Enix’ “Final Fantasy VII Remake” isn’t just one of the studio’s highly-anticipated titles—it is one of the most exciting games of the year. Players have been anxiously awaiting the game’s release since it was first announced. Fans are already looking forward to reuniting with Cloud.
On Tuesday, the game’s official Twitter account posted a message to notify fans about the delay.

The “Final Fantasy VII Remake” producer, Yoshinori Kitase, said in the statement, “We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience.”
He goes on to add, “I, on behalf of the whole team want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer.”
The game’s original release date was set for March 3. It will now launch on April 10, which equates to about a month. The new timing will put its release window much closer to CD Projekt Red’s “Cyberpunk 2077.” As such, April is shaping up to be a busy time for the gaming world.
For “Final Fantasy” fans, the last few weeks have been a roller coaster. News of the delay came just after new leaks surfaced showing previously unseen parts of the game. Square Enix also revealed some screenshots of Sephiroth and Aerith in combat.
‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Delayed
Although the “Avengers” title coming from Square Enix isn’t as highly-anticipated, it still promises to be a fun game. In the wake of “Endgame,” Marvel fans are craving new content.
Unfortunately, the wait will continue. Square Enix also announced that “Marvel’s Avengers” will be delayed until September 4. Considering that its original release date was May 15, that setback is far longer.
As for the reason why, Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg offered an explanation. They say, “We will spend this additional dev2elopment time focusing on fine-tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.”
The upcoming action-adventure title will offer fans a chance to play as their favorite Marvel characters in single-player and co-op modes. It will also receive updates over the course of several years to provide gamers with a developing story over time. For those wondering how it will play out after the events of “Endgame,” the Square Enix title won’t be part of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe.
