A long-awaited announcement came during E3 in the form of the official trailer for new roleplaying game “Elden Ring.” More specifically, it came ahead of the gaming convention through a leak on the Resetera forums.
Regardless, the news has fans of gaming and “Game of Thrones” buzzing about the new collaboration between FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin. The studio who brought “Dark Souls” and “Bloodborne” to life is ready to capture imaginations with another thrilling open-world fantasy game complete with an epic storyline and characters.
RPG Driven Storyline
The name “Elden Ring” itself brings to mind images of Middle Earth while the cover art is reminiscent of “Skyrim.” Upon hearing the news, many Thrones fans were dismayed over the fact it seems that Martin will never finish the “Song of Ice and Fire” book series. Yet, video game fans are thrilled about the collaboration with legendary game developer Hidetaka Miyazaki.
In an Xbox Wire interview, Miyazaki gave a few precious details about the game’s storyline. He said, “The Elden Ring is the name given to a mysterious concept that defines the world itself…This Elden Ring has been shattered.”
This appears to be a major plot point in the mysterious world full of magic and evil. Fans of FromSoftware games should expect “Elden Ring” to be more focused on RPG elements than previous releases. Players will have plenty of boss fights and challenging combat to look forward to. A variety of weapons, magic, and strategies will be available to unlock and buy. The experience will be even more personal thanks to a rich character customization system.
Although only limited details about the game have been announced, FromSoftware has confirmed that “Elden Ring” is the studio’s biggest release to date. It will feature a massive open world that players are free to explore and an intricate mythos to go with it. In the same interview, Miyazaki went on to say, “Due to this, the scale of the world and its narrative, as well as the depth and freedom of exploration have increased dramatically.”
However, a beautifully crafted world to explore isn’t the only thing players will enjoy. Martin is known for crafting dark, engaging worlds complete with lovable (and repulsive) characters that should make the gameplay and interactions captivating.
As of now, “Elden Ring” does not have a release date. However, the team has been working on it since the end of post-release development on “Dark Souls 3” DLC content in 2017. Unfortunately, since the first trailer has just been released, it will still be some time before the game hits the shelves. Gamers should it expect it on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
The team-up between Martin and Miyazaki brings together two of today’s most talented creators of fantasy and will surely result in an incredible game.
